I have a working phone now! Actually it was working several days ago, but I didn't have time to update. I got the phone last weekend and realized that my charger wasn't the right one for it (even though the Sprint guy assured me it did over the phone). And the battery had no juice in it to even turn the phone on so I had to go to the Sprint store instead of just transferring phones over the phone. At the store, after they charged my phone for a bit, the guy turned on my phone and there was a topless picture of Christina Aguilera on it! You couldn't really see anything because her arms were in a certain position, but I was pretty embarrassed. I think the guy was gay so he was also really turned off by the picture and said pretty loudly, "I bet you want me to get rid of the topless Christina screen saver?" I'm pretty sure customers around me heard that, but oh well, it's just a funny story now. So after my Sprint store trip and getting a charger, I have a working phone that y'all can call me at now. (Yes I said y'all...Matt and I heard someone say that to us yesterday, I thought that was only a southie thing!)
Today I'm just going to catch up on homework and start studying for my diffeq test on Thursday. It's open book for some reason, so I'm not too terribly worried about it. I'm also going to watch the Oscars. I always watch the Oscars (even for a little bit), but this year I'm not so excited about it because I haven't seen many of the movies and I don't think much of America has either! I read some statistic that more people watch the Oscars when the movie contentions are blockbusters...I could've told you that! Since 1997, the year Titanic won, the Oscar audience has gone down every year and only went up last year with Lord of the Rings. Hopefully this Oscar night won't be a snoozer!

Sadies
My brother went to Sadies tonight. The girl that asked him went to great lengths to do so. During a pep assembly weeks ago, she came by our house and asked my brother on our lawn! We had some neighbors come over to look at it. And one of our family friends came over to see it too. When i was in high school, I asked someone to Sadies at school, in class or something. I guess times have changed.

Hotmail= No Good
Hotmail causes a lot of problems. A lot of times the server is busy or it doesn't load and it's not only on my laptop. The storage just recently increased so that's not a problem anymore. But the last few days, when I click on the "Inbox" tab, it says I have no messages! I know I keep at least 10-20 e-mails in there at one time, there's no way I deleted them all. And right now, it tells me I have 3 new messages and so when I click on "New Mail" it says I have none. So it doesn't even let me read my new mail! This is very frustrating and I think hotmail needs to fix itself. Luckily hotmail works at random times of the day so if I check again later tonight, I will have mail in my inbox and new mail.
I just opened a Gmail account, but I use it primarily for applying for jobs and such. After I get a job and/or after I get married, if hotmail keeps acting weird, I might just use gmail from now on. It's going to be a pain updating my friends about the change!

In Rememberance
I wanted to post my remembrance spiel on the 19th, but couldn't. I heard about the Executive Order from a Japanese resident and found some information. So here it is:

On February 19th, in 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. EO9066 started in motion the mass evacuation of people of Japanese descent all along the west coast. Within 2 months, Americans of Japanese descent were no longer free. Citizens of this country were denied their dignity, their constitutional rights, and their livelihood.
Those in the Japanese American community mark this day as a Day of Remembrance because they honor those who suffered. They mark this day to remind others that this blatant manifestation of racism should never happen again.
Please join with them and pause sometime today and remember what happened to over 120,000 people of Japanese descent. Let this entry be a force of strength and resolve in this peace testimony. And, let it strengthen your commitment to realize the dream that all people, have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.]]

The act of stripping rights from people just because of who they are happens all the time today. Many groups such as African Americans, Islamic-Americans, Arab-Amercians, gays, etc. are victimized because of pure ignorance on the victimizer's part. Those who think they aren't involved in these problems also have a responsibility to help eliminate the forms of discrimination that make groups feel like sub-citizens.
Here is a quote that sums up this nicely (which I got from Crissy years ago):

Banana Chocolate Smoothies and Other thoughts
I've decided I like banana chocolate smoothies. I usually don't ever finish my drink, people who know me know that I drink two sips of water at a restaurant and I'm done. Well, I drank my whole smoothie and it was sooo good. Although, I think I may have a stomach ache soon because I drank so much of it.
I am starting to collect letters of recommendation since I'm applying to be a summer substitute teacher. I let my profs know that I'll be using the same rec for when I apply to be a regular teacher. That'll save them and me a lot of time. Some of the sub applications are really long and involved. Who knew they had to be so qualified??
Matt and I bought prizes for our upcoming pool tournament (We will get reimbursed for it). The prizes go to the top three players. Last year we had this same tourny and Matt and I were first and second place. So we're assuming we will win again this year! This is why we bought prizes that we would like. We got two DVDs: Sweet Home Alabama and Gettysburg. You can probably guess who picked what, haha. And we also bought the game Battle of the Sexes. We've played it a couple time and Milas and Krista's house and it's really fun in a big group.
Tomorrow, yet another week of classes is on the way. I can't wait for March 11th when spring break starts!

In Good Company
Matt and I saw "In Good Company" the other day while everyone and their mother saw "Hitch." I do want to see that movie also, but In Good Company only had two movie times, which leads me to believe that it was leaving soon. Anyways, the movie was really cute. It has an independent sort of vibe, and it may very well be an indep. movie, so if one knows that going into it, one will be pleasantly surprised. The previews made it look like the whole movie was about an older guy who has a young boss going out with his daughter. This is all true, but the movie is much deeper. More relevant themes deal with work life and family life colliding, the older guy dealing with getting older, and the young boss dealing with corporate bureaucracy. I give it an A-.
In other news, I got an A on my first diffeq exam. PHEW!!! That made me very happy today. I also turned in my student teaching packet. My first few choices are Troy High, Avondale, and Bloomfield (either Andover or Lasher, whichever one is closer to me). I figured I should pick schools close to home since I'll be in Troy until Feb.
Sidenote: Heather cut 12" of hair off and is giving it to Locks of Love. I think that is so amazing and good of her.
Double Sidenote: I changed my buddy icon to the best character on MarioKart. WARIO! (Thanks for the userpic) Although after playing Matt's game on Gamecube, I love the combination of Bowser and baby Luigi. :D

Ebay phone
I bought a phone on ebay last night and won the auction! My bid was $10.50 on a Sanyo 4900:
One of the reasons why I got it cheap is because it doesn't come with a charger, just the phone/battery. The phone that I have now uses the same charger. The ebay phones w/ chargers obviously had higher bids. Also the phone is slightly used.
I'm hoping the phone comes. Even though ebay is a good auction site, I am always worried about buying online from non-stores. If it comes in a few days and works well, then I will be one very happy camper!

News of the Day
If anyone knows where I can get a CHEAP cell phone without switching plans let me know. My phone decided to die on me. I've had it for 5+ years so I got pretty good use out of it. People have told me to look into ebay or a cell shop not associated with a particular brand/carrier. I haven't done either, but I'll start doing my research this weekend. My mom might have an old phone I could use, but I just thought I'd try all my options.
My midterm went just okay. The actual problems were pretty easy and I understood how to do each one. However, as I was checking over my work I realized I had forgotten to do part b) of a problem. I ended up only going halfway on that step before I had to turn in my midterm. That makes me mad, because I knew how to do it and had time, but I didn't realize I had to do it until there was basically no time left. After turning in my test, my prof handed out the answers to it. I've always had to wait until at least the next class to see the actual answers so it was kind of nice to see what the answers were while my answers were fresh in my head.
I'm currently researching "guest teaching" positions over the summer. A lot of Oakland County districts, like Troy and Bloomfield, require teacher's certification and "recommend having a masters degree" to be a sub. Why would someone be a sub if they had certification and a masters?! They could just be a teacher! I remember when sub positions were open to all college graduates. So I'm applying to sub positions where I don't have to be certified (obviously). One such place is AA. Perhaps Steph won't mind if I crash on her couch for the summer.

Happy Birthday Mona!
Happy Birthday Mona!!!!
It's my sister's birthday! And it happens to coincide with Mardi Gras, so Happy Mardi Gras to everyone.
Here's a picture of Mona during a family vacation to my favorite resort of all time, the Hawaiian Hilton Village, complete with a Tiffany's and other high end stores on hand. (I need more recent pictures of you Mona, we'll have to take a ton in April when I visit.) Anyway, this picture will suffice since Mona looks super cute.

I took a life expectancy quiz and my expectancy is 102 years old! WOW.

Anyways, Matt and I saw Wimbledon yesterday. Don't worry we're still on the free trial thing so we didn't have to pay! It was not good. I mean I can see how people might think it's cute and cheesy, but the main characters fall in love in two minutes and the girl is around 18 and the guy is 31! I guess they wanted to make it realistic for Hollywood.
I'm liking this free trial offer from Walmart. We never have to rent overpriced dvds from Blockbuster and we can pick virtually anything from the online store. We got to see Back to the Future (which Blockbuster doesn't carry!) and see some other titles that could be good, but wasn't worth our money to check it out, aka Wimbledon.
I'll be sad when our free trial is over. Maybe we'll try another free trial from a different company!

Bush has landed at the Omaha airport!!
Last night Bush arrived in Omaha to give a talk on Social Security. The reason I know this is because as I was watching TV last night they had this huge scrolling message on all the local channels saying "Air Force One has landed at Eppley!" and "Bush has made it to the gate!" I seriously think I would have been okay without them interrupting my regularly scheduled program.

Phones
My cell phone is really old-looking. And it's going to be a while until I get a new one. (I did get a new one last summer, but then it was stolen/lost in Cali...I don't want to talk about it :( )
Anyways so I'm not getting a new one again anytime soon, so I thought I'd try to jazz up my phone. I'm not trying to be like Paris Hilton, but I love her Swarovski Crsytal phone. The crystals can be placed on any phone, and it doesn't have to be Swarovski. Here are some pictures I found. My phone is a "candy bar phone" meaning it's not a flip phone so I tried to find pictures of phones that look like mine.
I like this style.
And I like these color crystals.
This doesn't look like my phone at all, but I thought it was cool that they had an ADPi one!
I went to the website that Lindsay Lohan went through and it's $395! So I'm obviously not going to do this unless the price is drastically lower.
