First Day on the Job

I started my job today in the accounting division at FinsilverandFriedman (www.freg.com). I was a little overwhelmed with all the info, but I was told that it seems that way and then it becomes much easier later. I need to start buying more business like outfits because only a few of my teaching outfits are professional enough in my opinion. I will probably have more to report from my job after I'm there for a little longer.
Last Saturday, we went to Harsen's Island to see Milas and Krista. The island is in Lake St. Clair and the weather was gorgeous. Unlike the crazy hot days we're experiencing now, it was in the high 70's and nice to sit and look out at the water. And picnic food like grilled hamburgers are always good! Full Weekend

We made a trip to Ann Arbor on Friday evening. We saw Keira, our new niece, and then went to Argerio's for a late dinner. I have made my favorite dish, tortellini alfredo, at home many times after getting the official recipe from a former Argerio's chef. I hadn't had the actual thing in a while. I think mine tastes almost identical except that my sauce isn't as thick.
We stayed at the Herstein house. Matt's parents had recently come home from Japan and told us of their very interesting trip. I have been to Japan for a better part of the day (I think we had a long layover on our way home from India). All I had seen was downtown Tokyo, the airport, and ate at a McDonalds. Matt's parents had been all around and I wouldn't mind going back someday and really touring the country.
At 10am, the Ann Arbor Art Fair started for the day. The weather was really nice. Usually the weather is super hot and it's such a chore to walk around to each booth. On Saturday, it was in the 70's and partly cloudy. We seriously considered buying a print of a cool symphony where the people were personified as instruments. We ended up not buying it because we didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on something that might not work with the room/size. The artist is based in Chicago and Matt and I are taking a weekend trip there in August, so who knows?
We drove home Saturday afternoon and were happy to see the 7th Harry Potter book waiting for us on our porch! Matt started reading it but had to finish it Sunday because we had plans to go to the Tigers game that evening.
We met up with Becky and her fiancee Kevin. The Tigers and Royals ended up tying in the 9th and we managed to win in the 10th inning! It was a really good game because it was close the whole time, which is more interesting to watch. Afterwards, we went to Hockeytown Cafe. Our waitress hated life so the service was pretty bad. But we had really good seats and were able to see the firework display over Comerica Park. Becky and Kevin both went to Central, but they are big Michigan football fans so I'm sure we'll be getting together more often in the future.
As said earlier, Matt finished the 7th Harry Potter book and I will probably get around to it this week.

Summer school is over, MY summer is beginning!

Summer school is over. I had absolutely no work to do on Friday or today. It was a strange feeling to come home and not having to go directly to the Econ book/notes. Matt and I bought tickets a while ago to see Harry Potter - Dinner and A Movie at the Palladium. The buffet dinner wasn't bad and we had assigned seats so we didn't have to wait in line to get into the theater. Because we were one of the first to buy our tickets, we had THE best seats in the house. If you haven't been to Palladium, the seats are tempur-pedic and huge. There's also table size areas between every two seats to set down your purse/drink/food. It's very comfortable! I thought we were going to see it in IMAX, but they don't have that. The movie was really good too! They did a really good job condensing the book and the director has an artistic side to him. I'm glad he is also directing the 6th book.
Matt's sister had her second child today! Congrats to Janette and Dan on the birth of Keira. We are going to Ann Arbor next weekend and will be able to see our new niece!
We will also stop by the Art Fair and see if we can find something for our new home. I am really looking forward to fixing up the house again now that I will have a lot more free time until September!
Tomorrow my mom and I are going to a baby shower of a family friend. I heard there is going to be Middleastern food. Yum!

July 4th

One more week of summer school. I was able to plan the whole week in detail so I will have less to do every day. I actually like summer school when there's not hours of plans to do every night. It's really fun! I think it helps that my students are so good.
Kacie met up with us in Novi, July 3rd. We went to 5th avenue ballroom. They have an outdoor patio which was perfect for a summer evening. We took a picture because I don't have any of us since we roomed at ADPi...well basically:

On July 4th, we went out to dinner with Marisa and Jake. We met up with them at McCormick and Schmick's. The place was really nice and everyone liked their food. I didn't like my order because I wanted bay scallops and apparently sea scallops are not the same thing. I'll have to remember that for later! Afterwards we went to their house and played with Bella, their new dog, and then played Settlers, a board game. I started getting sneezy with Bella. I felt bad because it was their new dog and they had to lock her up. I eventually want to get a dog, and a terrier/german shepherd mix is something I definitely cannot get. I wonder if there's any breed of dog I can really live with. *sigh* Settlers was a really fun game. I did win so that may have something to do with it.

Matt and I looked up flights to a lot of "beach" places over xmas break and they are SO expensive. How does anyone afford to fly south then?? I'm going to check on prices in a few months to see if I just checked too early.
