Matt's 30th Birthday

We celebrated Matt's 30th birthday yesterday. Sean and I gave him our gifts in the morning and then we went to Matt's hometown, Ann Arbor, to celebrate with the Herstein family. While Sean stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Herstein, Matt and I saw a movie for the first time since June. We saw Avatar in 3D. The plot was okay, but the graphics were amazing. It looked like we were watching real aliens instead of computer generated ones. It was weird going somewhere without Sean. We've only done it a few times, but I am still not used to it. It was really nice having a date with my husband again. After so many years, he is still the kindest, most thoughtful person I know. Happy Birthday to my best friend and husband, Matt!

Award Season

Someone reminded me that the golden globe nominations just came out. That means that Award Season is coming very soon! I love watching the red carpet fashion (or mishaps), the actual show, and then follow up on msn the next day to hear the critics rehash everything- the speeches, the winners, etc. Sometimes, I'll even watch the best/worst dressed show on E, but usually just for the Oscars. While Michigan's weather goes from bearably cold to unbearably cold, it's nice to have something to look forward to from Jan-March! And with Tivo, watching has been so much better because then I can forward all the stupid interviews with has-been actors and speeches with boring categories (um film editing??)!

One of my favorite dresses from last year's Academy Awards was a Balmain gown that Penelope wore. Beautiful!

5 months!

Sean is growing like a weed! He had a few milestones this past month. He can sit for a few seconds at a time and he can roll from back to tummy! He rolled from tummy to back a while ago and then just stopped trying, so we are going to revisit that soon. He can also soothe himself back to sleep in the middle of the night (although I think this was closer to 4 months). This has been TREMENDOUS for Matt and I. We can now put him down awake and he will fall asleep. And if he stirs in the middle of the night, he will fall right back asleep. It took a few days to get him to learn this, and in the meantime, we weaned him of his pacifier at night. Because he has an early bedtime, it has been great to have quality time with Matt again. We can eat dinner together, watch a movie, or just veg for a while in the evenings.

Sean loves his giraffe teether, the spinner on his exersaucer, as well as playing peek a boo. I hope he gets his teeth soon because he is teething up a storm!

Here is Sean starting rice cereal. He has only had it a few times and just laughs when he eats it (or doesn't eat it)!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was wonderful! Mona, Sujith and Sohan came to visit and we had a large family celebration at my parents' house. I made green bean casserole and Matt made his signature buttermilk pie to bring over to the feast. We had tons of food- turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, creamed spinach, cornbread, cranberry relish, mashed potatoes, gravy and sweet potatoes with gruyere (Mona made this). Besides Matt's pie we had pumpkin pie, apple pie, and some Italian tiramisu/bread pudding thing my brother made. And this year we had Sohan and Sean celebrate their first Thanksgivings. The two cousins met for the first time, but were not really interested in each other. Perhaps next year, when they are both older, they will interact a bit more.
