Happy Easter! Today Matt and I went to St. Mary's for mass, since Matt is Catholic. I picked this church a few years ago because I wanted to go to a pretty one. Here's a picture of it:


After, we went to the Cornhusker for brunch. They always have a ton of food and it's all really good. Not as good as the Gandy Dancer's brunch, but it was classy nonetheless. One thing I like about holidays such as Easter, or Valentine's day, is that Matt always opens the car door for me. haha

I'm also feeling better. I think I had a cold and not allergies like I had first thought. I will feel even better tomorrow when we're supposed to have a high of 75 degrees! woo hoo

Sick

I have been feeling sick for the past few days. I think it actually may be a cold mixed with allergies, which is a little weird since I only get allergies in the fall. Anyways, so it's really hard to focus on my psych paper when all I want to do is sleep! If anyone has any insight or articles they know of correlating music programs and higher academic achievement, let me know!

On an unrelated sidenote, this article pisses me off. Apparently some guy was fired from a trustee board for not saying the pledge of allegiance. Why are people so narrow-minded? Got me.

Loss

Spring Break is over

Starting school again was a little hard after spring break. My first class was a drag and I couldn't wait for it to end even though it's only 50 minutes long! I'm already looking forward to the weekend, haha.
I decided on a topic for my psych paper. It can be about anything under the sun that deals with education, so I think I want to do something about how children in music programs tend to get higher scores in academic subjects such as math and science. It's still just a brainstorm, but it sounds pretty interesting to me.

March Madness makes me mad

I'm not doing well in the March Madness Pool so I'm just rooting for Matt to win now. We joined this league with over 20 people, but as of right now I'm #17. Although, it's my fav number, I'd rather be #1 :)
I got my next issue of UsWeekly in the mail, but haven't started reading last week's. I'm also getting into the book "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown. Matt bought me the book because he thought it was a good read. I actually think the idea of writing about the clash between science and religion is an interesting one. I always wonder how someone can truly believe in both, so maybe this book will open some doors.
I liked being home but it's good to be back in Lincoln since the weather is much better!

I got my Absolut cards!

Spring break was a nice relaxing time. I also got a rough draft of my paper done, almost picked a reception place, and saw some friends. We got back to Lincoln today and while checking my mail I got my Absolut Winter deck of cards. I thought they would never come!

Wisdom Teeth

I had a consultation about my wisdom teeth, and they're going to have to come out. I was trying to get through life without having to do that, but it's inevitable. My bottom teeth haven't even hit the surface, and may never come out, but I don't have room for them if they do decide to show themselves. And since wisdom teeth have to come out in pairs, the tops have to go (even though they're out and perfectly fine!). Luckily my insurance covers sedation, as opposed to local anesthesia, so I'm going to go for that. My surgery is scheduled for May 27th, a week after my sister's wedding. So while Mona is relaxing on the beaches of Jamaica I'll be having surgery. Sweet.

Royal Oak aka RO town

I just finished a good chunk of my intro for a paper I'm trying to finish over break. It's supposed to be 10 pages so I guess I'm 10% done, haha. I figured I would do a ton over the week when my parents and brother are at work/school.
Yesterday Heather, Steph, Courtney, and I played euchre. It was nice to just relax and hang out with them after so long. I must have talked a TON throughout the day with my family and later with my friends because my voice started leaving me for a while, which has never happened to me without yelling or being sick. It came back an hour later so it wasn't too bad. After euchre playing, Steph, Courtney, and I went to Woody's in Royal Oak (which happens to be my birthplace like everyone else in the burbs, sup). I had a really good time and cover was only $2. Coat check was more expensive than cover, who does that? We paid for it anyway, because there was no where to put our coats where they would be safe. Since Heather drove us to the bar, we called a cab to get back afterwards. The cab companies around me, non-college town cabbies, definitely don't work the same way as Ann Arbor. When we called the company it was busy forever, and when we finally got through, the answering machine asked us to leave a message! I wonder if you have to secure a cab in advance?? Luckily Courtney knew someone at the bar and we got a ride home. Phew!
Today I went to Coney Island for lunch and they ran out of spinach pie!!! I was craving that so badly, but I ended up getting a boring coney dog. Oh well.
Our whole family had to help clean the basement a little this afternoon. After a few hours we barely made a dent. I can't believe how much junk we have. We have our Halloween costumes from years ago and old toys, etc. Why did we keep this stuff??

Spring Break

FOUR more days until my break officially begins! Even though I have a quiz and test before I leave, I'm still excited. One of my teachers had the nerve to give us a packet of questions to turn in the Monday we get back. This kid in my class said something under his breath like "sure I'll just take this to Mexico and do some coding theory on the beach." haha, lucky for me I will just be in cold Michigan!
On Saturday night, Heather, Steph, Courtney and I are going to hang out. We're going to watch some SATC and possibly make cosmos. Not quite sure what the drink of choice will be. After Saturday, I'm hopefully going to finish my masters paper. I decided to write it on the history of zero and common misconceptions/fallacies of zero in different math classes. My advisor kind of picked the topic for me, but as I was researching on it, I found the information really interesting, such as how 1 = 2, etc. I'm hoping to finish that and secure a wedding reception site by St. Patty's day, when I come to AA and see everyone, and before I leave for Lincoln the following day :(

Something that I learned today that I thought was weird was that Jay Leno can't talk about the Michael Jackson trial since he might be a witness, so for his MJ jokes, he has a stand-in do those during his monologue. Jay is trying to get an exemption so he can tell the jokes, but Michael's lawyers are against it. Hopefully, Jay won't have a stand-in for too long, because it's so much better when he tells the jokes.

Substituting

Today I'm picking up some recommendation letters from profs. Then I can finally send in my applications for substitute teaching. Some don't require the letters so those have already been sent in. One of the districts basically said I just have to come in and fill out forms, and they can put me into the system within a few days. Since I can't really work until May, I'll have to do that when I get back if the other places don't pan out. Some districts, like Ann Arbor, have over a HUNDRED people on their waiting lists. I'm not sure if I should sign up or even if I can sign up! That's a little discouraging.
These past few days I have been getting a lot of sleep and I felt very rested and energized throughout the day. However, that backfired because this morning I woke up around 5:30am and was not tired at all. I guess getting too much sleep is also a bad idea.
Tonight, Matt and I are going to an art gallery exhibit opening. We have to be kind of dressed up, and besides looking at art, there will be refreshments/cash bar, and mingling. Very New York sounding :)

Nice weather

It's been really nice here with highs around 50 and next weekend we should hit 60. It's pretty much been sunny and nice here for a while, with the few windy day exceptions. It's crazy to think that the rain/mudslides in the west, the cold in New Orleans and down south, and the snow from Michigan to the North Carolina area is happening. Sometimes I wish we could get a storm to shake things up! (Not really...)
