I'm really glad it is the weekend. Summer school has been taking up all of my time. I teach the same class 4 hours a day. While the students are really good (most of them are taking it for advanced credit, I only have 3 retakers), it is a lot to plan since I teach 1-2 chapters a day. I haven't taught this class yet so I don't have any previous notes. I basically write up notes, figure out worksheets, type up quizzes/tests, every day, not to mention correcting every night. Luckily I am ahead of schedule and I'm going to try and write up this whole week's worth of notes today. We'll see how far I get!
I'm still waiting to hear back from 2 interviews. One definitely told me they would get back to me next Tuesday. The other one said by Friday but I haven't heard anything. This makes me worry :(
I hope things settle down in time for my favorite holiday, July 4th! We are planning to meet up with Kacie and some other people on July 3rd and possibly doing an early dinner with Marisa and Jake on the 4th. If anyone is having a bbq, please invite me, I haven't been to one in ages!!
I am getting a haircut this afternoon. I am still trying to figure out a style instead of my usual layered shoulder-length cut that I get every summer. I really like Katie Holmes' new haircut, but I'm sure if I get it, I won't look glamourous; I'll probably look like I'm 5.
Lastly, Matt and I are looking into ideas for a post-Christmas vacation. We had to take a several weekend vacations for various events the past 6 months, but we want to do a 5 day vacation, and preferably somewhere beachy/warm. Right now we're looking into the Florida Keys or my fam's timeshare in Puerta Vallarta. We both haven't been to either place.

Ashley's Wedding/Summer School
I updated my journal's look. The map was giving me too many problems and worked hardly ever. I like this new theme. It reminds me of a nice warm day sitting by the pool.
Ashley's wedding flew by. One second we were in Nebraska, another second we're home and back to reality. The wedding was really nice. It was held at a Methodist Church and the reception was at Fontanelle Forest, which is a nature center. They have nice banquet facilities. Here are a few pics:
Summer school started today. I am teaching Economics. There are a ton of kids that take Econ during the summer. It's a required class and I guess students just want to get it out of the way. I think I have only one kid who is retaking it.

Summer
School is over and so the summer begins. I was called for a second interview for a Troy summer school position. Right after the interview, they handed me a book and syllabus so I had to infer I got the job. It was funny how they didn't just tell me I got it. So now I will be teaching my other endorsement, Economics, from June 22 to July 13. Basically the students need to learn Econ 101 in 15 days; I have to teach a chapter a day. I hope they do not think it's going to be easy. The administration may need me to come back for second session to teach Algebra 1, but they won't know until later because they need more students to sign up.
Tomorrow, Matt and I are leaving for Nebraska for the long weekend because I'm a bridesmaid in Ashley's wedding. I'm really excited for the wedding since it's only my second friend's wedding! Every other wedding I've been to has been a family friend, Matt's friend, or a friend of a friend. However I am a little worried about the weather. It's an outdoor wedding and it's supposed to be 90 degrees! That is way too hot for me.
Lastly I must say Happy Birthday to both of my moms! Mom Herstein's birthday was yesterday and Mom Gupta's birthday is tomorrow.

Silly Seniors
I am home a little earlier than expected. I got to school this morning and noticed that all of the school lights were off expect for a few here and there. It was dark enough that administration and campus aides were carrying around flashlights to help students get to their lockers. A lot of cell phones/Ipods came out so people could see as well.
Because this also meant the AC was off and the back up generators could only turn on one light per hallway (meaning no classroom lights were on), they ushered all the kids to the stadium for light and to get out of the hot school. It was still a few minutes before school started so many students were just entering the building to be told to leave and go out back. Us teachers had to keep the students at bay so they would not escape! Many of them tried, but because we are liable for them until they are officially dismissed, we had to keep them all on stadium grounds, which is a ton of room to hold them.
We got word that the electricity problem was worse than we expected. Apparently a transformer across the street would have to be serviced, which takes about a day to reboot. However, we had to keep the students for 1 1/2 hours because the busses were still on their middle and elementary school routes. Even upperclassmen drivers had to wait. Around 9am (they were taken to the stadium at 7:30am), the busses came and school was dismissed.
What is interesting was that today was final exams for the seniors (just hours 1,2,3). We cannot make them come back on Monday so they are exempt from half of their exams! It is optional if they want to come on Monday to take them, which I assume only a few will do to help raise their grades. I think it is VERY coincidental that this happened on the last senior day (although the administration says it is unrelated). The only other senior prank this week was that an octupus was found hanging from the ceiling in the fine arts wing. And there was talk of a food fight on Wednesday so no condiments were allowed to be sold. For instance, no ketchup/mustard for hot dogs, no cheese for nachos, students had to put dressing on their salads instead of asking for a cup of it on the side. I had no idea how much patrolling and investigating teachers and administration have to do during this week! Silly seniors...
