Baby Steps

The wedding invitations are already being shipped over. I cannot believe how fast that was! Hopefully there aren't any mistakes on it. I assume it's fine though.
Yesterday Matt and I went to Red Oaks Water Park. I hadn't been there in forever. It used to just be a wave pool and water slides. Now they have a lazy river where you just sort of hang out on a tube while the current takes you around; it's very relaxing. They also have a "Soak Station," which is mainly for kids and it's just a huge playground where different buttons spray water. It was really fun to be there for the day since it was really hot outside!

Afterwards we tried this restaurant in Troy called Mario's Cafe. The food is mainly Italian, and after 9pm a band started playing in the outside patio area and people actually started dancing! We were seated inside, but we could see some dancers, and it was pretty amusing to see older couples "raising the roof" to Brick House, haha. Our waitress was as dumb as a doorknob. When she came to get the bill, we asked her to put $18 on the credit card and that we'd pay for the rest with the $20 bill, which we would obviously get change back since our bill was under $38. We know this isn't the normal way to pay, but she acted like it was rocket science and said, "Um...I'll just take the credit card and you can explain the rest to me after." What were we going to say when she got back, "okay now here's the 20" ? So she left with the credit card and Matt said "baby steps...baby steps to the register." If you've seen What About Bob (or not) I thought that was hilarious. Then our waitress came back and said, "Wait, how much do you want me to put on the card?" After we told her AGAIN, and she left, Matt said "Baby steps to numbers." hahaha
To make a long story short (too late eh?) when she finally took the $20 from us she came back with 20 singles. I guess she thought by change we wanted change for a 20 in singles. Ahhh gotta love non UofMers.

Wedding News, Dad's New Car

We ordered wedding invitations, FINALLY. My mom and I looked at a ton of options/patterns and we ended up picking the one we thought we were going to pick the second day into it. Oh well, it's good to look at what's out there. I had to look up different flower names because my vocabulary and recognition of flowers goes as far as roses, tulips, carnations, and the normal ones that everyone knows. Has anyone heard of a gerbera daisy? I kind of took a liking to those while looking at the flower book. I personally am not a fan of flowers, but after going to Mona's reception, the flowers really turn a hotel hall into a really pretty place.
In other news, my dad got an STS, which is an awesome Cadillac. It's crazy how many features are in that thing. There isn't even a key to start the car, you have to press a button to start it! And there's a 6-cd changer, On-Star, 2 DVD players, heated seats (which is really important right now), XM radio, a 0-60mph engine speed not unlike Aerosmith's Rock&Rollin Coaster, and anything else you can think of pretty much, haha. Hopefully my dad will let me drive it this weekend while Matt is in town.

Art Fair

I went to the Ann Arbor Art Fair this Thursday and I didn't think it was as good as the last time I went, which was a few years ago. And I don't know how the fair manages to fall on the hottest days every year. I'm always so uncomfortably hot and sweaty when I look around. I forgot to bring my camera to the fair, but I didn't see anything I wanted to take pictures of anyway.
I didn't do much this weekend, I hung out with Matt and then later with Steph, Courtney, and Dawna. Matt's family bought a few copies of the new Harry Potter book and I could not put the book down. I wasn't planning on reading it right away, but the book was just sitting there and I started reading and reading and reading...
This upcoming weekend will be exciting becaust Matt will be done with the bar exam and can actually come to Troy, yeah!

I apparently watch a LOT of movies. I'm not surprised since I love watching movies whenever I can. I'm also not that picky. I bet I even liked some of the movies that I italicized, but I didn't bold them b/c I don't remember the movie that well, i.e. ET and Tootsie, which I saw many years ago. I think Matt has seen a pretty good amount of movies too, since I saw a lot of these with him!

War of the Worlds

I forgot to mention that Matt and I saw "War of the Worlds" the other day. If you don't want me to spoil the ending then don't read on....

I thought it was a pretty good movie. I heard from a lot of people, including my brother, that the ending wasn't done very well. Because I knew this going into the movie, I think my expectations were lower than others, and I ended up very much enjoying the movie. Speilberg and Cruise usually do a good job and so the special effects were awesome and the acting was good. Dakota Fanning is usually annoying to me so that wasn't any different. I can't deny that she is pretty good for her age, but her shrieking throughout the movie made me more and more annoyed with her. I wish they had developed the whole "bacteria is what caused the downfall" plot. I mean they alluded to the fact that the germs caused it, but it wasn't certain unless you really knew beforehand. I thought it was the birds that made the machines fall at one point when Cruise was crazily yelling at an officer to notice the birds pecking at the shields. Anyway, the plot is really amazing and intersting to think about. And I did like the ending when the narrator, Morgan Freeman, says:

"From the moment the invaders arrived, breathed our air, ate, and drank, they were doomed. They were undone, destroyed, after all of man's weapons and devices had failed, by the tiniest creatures that God and his wisdom put upon this earth. By the toll of a billion deaths, man had earned his immunity, his right to survive among this planet's infinite organisms. And that right is ours against all challenges. For neither do men live nor die in vain."

Summer Fun

Last Friday, we had a bbq at my house. I think it turned out really well considering that I have never hosted a relatively big party before. Later, Courtney, Steph and I went to Tonic in Pontiac. That was pretty fun as well but no great stories to tell.
Yesterday, Steph, Courtney, Nick (C's bf) and I went to Silver Lake to hang out in the HOT sun. I didn't realize there were any lakes nearby to swim in, but this wasn't too far and apparently it's part of a national park. We played euchre on the grassy beach, swam, and played volleyball. I think I even got a slight tan. Nick went a little crazy on us during v-ball, but luckily that's Courtney's problem and not mine, haha.
Heather won tickets to the premiere of "Wedding Crashers" and invited me to be her guest so that will be on Thursday night. It's not like an LA or NY premiere where people dress up and walk a red carpet. I imagine this will be like going to the movies, Michigan style. Hopefully it's a good movie!

7/4/05

Today is my favorite holiday of the year. Sab's party was really fun on Friday. She rented an ice cream cart, "Madagascar" Moon Walk, popcorn machine, had TONS of food, impressive fireworks and great company. Matt and I got to throw those mini "poppers" where they blow up when they hit the cement, and we also lit up sparklers. Great times, great lakes, lol.

Today I went to a family friend's picnic in Rochester. It was at a really nice park with little fountain lakes and trails. There was a kid's play structure and I went on one of the swings. I felt sheepish because my butt was too wide for the seats. I didn't feel as bad when my brother, who's also skinny, said that his thighs felt like they were being crushed by the swing. Hopefully it was just this particular structure, and I'm not too big for swings!
