Day Off

Yeah I have the day off! I hadn't realized how I was on auto pilot for the last several weeks. They flew by and it all caught up with me last night when I realized I had a day off tomorrow. I probably hadn't been getting a lot of sleep, although I had been getting enough, and all of a sudden I was super tired and crashed. I guess schools know this happens and plan their breaks accordingly :) On my day off, I'm going grocery shopping (it will be a big trip because I'm going to try and get everything for my party next week), picking up a prescription, mailing our taxes through certified mail, stopping at my parents house so they can check our taxes before I mail them, and going to yoga after everything. Pretty fun eh?
I'm excited for our inspection tomorrow morning. I hope all goes well because this is one of the last hurdles we have to go through before actually getting our house!

Royal Oak and upcoming weekends

Housing Update-

Matt and I came to an agreement with the sellers and will have a house in Royal Oak very, very soon. We have an inspection on Saturday and if that goes well, we close on April 24th!!! Between the inspection and closing, we have a million things to do in terms of getting a mortgage, changing the title, getting insurance, lining up a moving van, etc. We are already on our cell phones a lot calling banks and getting estimates. Who knew this was so much work? It's totally worth it though. I will post house pictures once we close (or should I say if we close).

I'm also planning a get together in a few weeks (we would still be at our apartment). I'm trying to figure out what appetizers to make. Marisa suggested bruschetta, which I think is a really good idea. I also want to make flirtinis for everyone. I don't want to be making them all night, so I might have to go out and buy a punch bowl...

And the weekend after that, Matt and I are going down south to visit Mona and Sujith.
I think we'll be pretty busy for the next month and a half!

sidenote: It was up to 79 degrees today, woo hoo!

Spring is here...I think

Why is it so cold on the first day of spring? I was talking to an Athens science teacher and she believes that the weather patterns shifted this past year so winter started later. I do remember nothing happening in November/December and then everyone having major snow storms in January/February. Who knows? Maybe it's always like that and we just never remember. Although, it's supposed to be nicer, at least here in Michigan, starting tomorrow!
St. Patty's was fun, but uneventful. I hung out with friends, but we ended up staying in because the lines to places were too long by the time we were ready to go out. Even for dinner, we ended up at Kai Garden, obviously a Chinese place, because the bars had 2 hour waits. We usually go to Charley's at some point, but that's been closed for a while. And Ashwin sent me this link today on how it was bought out and will reopen in April. The day after St. Pat's, I attended my cousin-in-law's baby shower.
Tomorrow, Matt and I are putting an offer on a house. The last house we put an offer on didn't work out because the sellers weren't willing to come down (which personally was silly on their parts, given our horrible market and that their house is STILL on the market with no offers). But it was for the best, because the house we like now is in Royal Oak. Royal Oak was my #1 city for a house because it has a ton of starter homes and a larger population of young professsionals like Matt and myself.

If I can make it here, then I can make it anywhere...

Our trip to New York was wonderful. We were able to do everything on our list. We went to the Met, ate at Au Bon Pain and 'Wichcraft, went to Chinatown (while they happened to be celebrating their New Year so it was way crazier than it usually is), hung out with Matt's family, including watching Diana's amazing recital, met up with my Uncle, and stayed in a beautiful hotel. While shopping around on 5th, I found one of my favorite Disney villains, Cruella!



We LOVED eating at Morimoto (The Iron Chef). He had amazing seafood and sushi dishes. By far our favorite restaurant in NYC. Thanks to my Uncle and his girlfriend Maria for taking us to this fab restaurant. This is the famous "water bottle" wall in the restaurant:

We also celebrated our first anniversary. Thanks to family and friends for the cards, calls, etc. We can't believe it's already been a year! It's weird not celebrating our "dating anniversaries" but I think it's better that we can celebrate wedding anniversaries because it seems more important.

This whole next week I'll be proctoring the ACTs and Michigan's version of the MEAPs. I've never proctored before, but I intend to add it to my resume! I hope everyone has a nice weekend. It's supposed to be in the 50's here so that will be a nice change!
